The cemetery was founded in 1903 and primarily serves the congregants of our members synagogues: Morristown Jewish Center-Beit Yisrael (Morristown), Temple B’nai Or (Morristown).   We honor Jewish traditions important to our families and loved ones. Interfaith burials are permitted in the Southern section.

Flags for Veterans

Each year we look for volunteers for an hour of work at the Cemetery around Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and on the Sunday between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Meet your friends and get some fresh air at the same time. If you have questions, email us at bethisraelcemeterynj@gmail.com.

Volunteers are needed in November, 2026 the weekend before and the weekend after Veterans Day to help put out flags for our Veterans. It’s nice to walk around for an hour. The flag placement and pickup date will be determined after Labor Day. It will be within the two-week timeframe. All help is appreciated.

About Beth Israel Cemetery

Originally incorporated in 1903, our cemetery was known as the Morristown Hebrew Cemetery Association until 1927 when the name was changed to Beth Israel Cemetery Association.

The ten-acre cemetery, located on Ridgedale Avenue in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey, is divided into three sections; Old, New and Southern. The Old Section was begun in 1903. It has standing monuments and raised markers. The New Section was begun as a memorial park in the 1960s with markers that were flush to the ground.  Beginning in 2006, upright monuments have been allowed in the New Section. The Southern Section is separated from the main area by the driveway and is used for burials of families of mixed faith.  Because of limited space, plots are now primarily available only to congregants of our members synagogues: Morristown Jewish Center-Beit Yisrael and Temple B’nai Or in Morristown.

Pets are not allowed in the cemetery, with the exception of service animals.
Restrooms are not available.
